MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Philippine S&T Development Foundation, Inc. (PhilDev Foundation) successfully hosted its TechUP Incubation Management Workshop from January 16th to 19th, 2024, marking a significant milestone in its mission to bolster technopreneurship and innovation across Philippine higher education institutions. This intensive four-day workshop, part of PhilDev’s flagship TechUP program, aimed to equip university representatives with the knowledge and tools necessary to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within their campuses.
Led by Ms. Maria Cristina “Indo” Ibañez, the esteemed Innovation Resource Manager and TBI Manager of Miriam College, the workshop provided an unparalleled opportunity for participants to delve into the establishment, management, and sustainability of university-based Technopreneurship Centers.
Empowering Academic Institutions through Collaborative Learning
The event kicked off with discussions on the foundational steps for creating Technopreneurship Centers, focusing on community preparation, resource mobilization, and strategic planning. The subsequent days were dedicated to exploring effective management practices, student engagement techniques, and the development of a supportive innovation ecosystem within universities.
A Benchmark in Technopreneurship Education
Highlighting the workshop was a benchmarking visit to Batangas State University’s Center of Technopreneurship and Innovation. This excursion offered attendees a tangible glimpse into the successful integration of technopreneurship into academic curricula, showcasing best practices and innovative strategies in nurturing the next generation of technopreneurs.
Fostering a Nationwide Movement of Innovation
“We have been running FTIC for over 5 years already and there are still a lot of areas we still need to learn about. We were able to get very helpful insights, as we are in the process of planning for our next school year, we have been applying what we are learning from the workshops,” stated Gianina Napo, from FEU Institute of Technology, one of the TechUP cohort universities, when asked about how the Incubation Management Workshop was able to help them.
The workshop has set a precedent for academic excellence and innovation, inspiring institutions across the nation to embrace technopreneurship and contribute to the Philippines’ growing startup ecosystem.
