From October 10 to 24, over 30 PhilDev scholars are participating in the online 2020 SDG Bayanihan Summit, the biggest national event organized by the 2030 Youth Force in the Philippines (2030 YFPH) to engage and mobilize the youth to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In the Summit, the scholars have the opportunity to learn from youth leaders, social entrepreneurs, and advocates of the SDGs from all over the Philippines about their efforts in achieving inclusive and sustainable development by 2030.
As part of their participation in the Summit, the scholars are also joining a week-long hackathon addressing various challenges in the pillars of sustainable development: People, Planet, Prosperity, and Peace. The hackathon is especially designed to create solutions addressing issues brought by the COVID-19 pandemic such as making distance learning accessible for all, empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises amid the pandemic, among others.
PhilDev’s partnership with the 2030 YFPH aims to provide the scholars an opportunity not only to learn about the SDGs but also to help them enhance their skills in collaborating with fellow youth and in innovating solutions to the world’s toughest problems.
Opportunities like this are part of PhilDev’s support services to the scholars. In the PhilDev Scholarship program, students also receive one-on-one counseling, mentorship, and participation in annual leadership camps aside from financial support. This is to ensure that scholars develop holistically after they graduate from college.
