MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Philippine S&T Development Foundation (PhilDev Foundation) is proud to announce the successful completion of its latest endeavor under the TechUP program, the Impact Management Workshop for Technopreneurship Centers. Held online via Zoom on January 30th and 31st, 2024, this pioneering workshop was designed to equip leaders from Philippine universities and colleges with the tools and knowledge necessary to foster impactful technopreneurial learning experiences.
Aimed at enhancing the capabilities of existing and upcoming Technopreneurship Centers across the country, the Impact Management Workshop brought together four core team members from each of the participating Higher Education Institution (HEI) cohorts, including FEU Institute of Technology, Jose Rizal University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Mapua University, and STI College University.
Empowering HEIs through Impactful Incubation
The workshop focused on the vital role that innovative startups play in addressing social and developmental challenges. With expert speakers like Priya Thachadi, Co-Founder and CEO of Villgro Philippines, and Masaki Mitsuhashi, Consultant at Embiggen, participants were immersed in discussions about incubating impact-oriented startups and the nuances of impact monitoring and management.
Key topics covered during the two-day event included:
- The significance of integrating impact within startup incubation to address societal challenges.
- Best practices for incubating startups with a focus on social impact.
- An exploration of tools and approaches for effective impact monitoring and management.
- Guidance on drafting an initial Impact Management Plan tailored to each institution’s Technopreneurship Center.
A Diverse Cohort of Participants
From the established Technopreneurship Center at FEU Institute of Technology, which has already spearheaded internal and external incubation activities, to the newly established center at Polytechnic University of the Philippines poised to kickstart its inaugural initiatives, the workshop catered to a diverse range of development stages among the HEI cohorts. This diversity fostered a rich exchange of ideas and best practices, setting the stage for collaborative growth and innovation across the Philippine academic landscape.
Looking Ahead: Fostering a Culture of Innovation and Social Impact
“The workshop was full of new learning and insights. It helped us project and see the real-life impact of what we are about to establish into our own community, society, and university environment as a whole,” said Jaypee Padilla of STI College Global City. PhilDev remains committed to supporting the growth and success of Technopreneurship Centers across the Philippines, with plans to continue offering workshops and resources under the TechUP program.
